My Story

CONTEMPORARY ART
As an abstract and impressionistic painter, I am drawn to the themes of seaside, botany, and the natural world. My art glorifies my love of the small details of nature and botanicals. My seascapes are a practice of trying to catch the atmospheric feeling of the day, not tightly focused on the details. My subject matter will change but will always tie back to my love of all things related to the solitude and peace of the natural world. My art is a meditation, usually done in the early morning hours before the day steals my conscious mind back to reality. I also enjoy getting far out and away with my easel to paint plein air, catching the day as it changes, holding on to a little bit of time and place.
I was raised in New England by my lovely red head Irish Mum. She taught me to look a little closer and spend time observing the beauty around us. Outings with my Mum were always out of-doors, spending hours in the woods and at the seashore collecting treasures. Everything was art with my Mum, sewing our own clothes, knitting, crochet, crewel and bead work. Our home was full of materials to create with. My favorite memory is picking violas to dip in egg white and powdered sugar to decorate our Birthday cakes. Living a creative life is my most important pursuit.
